TBA: Fund Raiser - High Flow Oxygen Concentrator
In under 24 hours we have secured positive responses from our members, with pledges to cover the cost of an Oxygen Concentrator. We have now secured an Oxygen Concentrator, to be urgently procured in Melbourne, and shipped via logistic channels of the Australia Sri Lanka Medical Aid Team (AUSLMAT). This Oxygen Concentrator is earmarked for delivery to the Bandarawela District Hospital. We thank you immensely for your kindhearted generosity in helping achieve this goal, in such a short time.
In alignment with our association’s values, the OAAV continues to support multiple Covid initiatives. Each will result in benefiting all needy Sri Lankans. We are pleased to have been able to contribute even in a small way. As we continue our battle against a common adversary, further donations can be made to the Australian Covid Appeal For Sri Lanka. Please see below a link to the donations page.
Further, the OAAV is working with a Melbourne manufacturer of medical grade masks and face shields, which are further items we plan to dispatch in the future. If you require any further information regarding the project, please do not hesitate to contact any one of the following committee members.

March 7 : Clean-up Australia Day
Clean Up Australia Day has successfully grown each year to make this community event the largest annual environmental campaign in Australia. This Day is now firmly entrenched in the Australian calendar. It is an apolitical, non-profit community campaign in which everyone can participate.
This year’s Clean Up Australia Day is on Sunday 7 March 2021.
Every year hundreds of thousands of Australians help clean up their local environment on Clean Up Australia Day. It is a lot of fun and everyone can take part.
In the past, we have had more than 20 volunteers (Old Anandians and their family members) taking part in the cleaning up activities. After the cleaning up activities were over, all of us were feeling elated knowing that we have made a small contribution to the country we call home now, by participating in this important event.
Once again we have selected Mordialloc Creek and Epsom wetlands as our designated site. We need as many volunteers as possible on the day.
We are planning to commence clean-up activities at 8.30am and conclude by 12 noon.
Meeting Place: Car Park next to the J Grut Reserve in Mordialloc.
|Date||7th March 2021 (Sunday)|
|Time||8.30 am to 12.00 noon|
|Place||Mordialloc Creek and Epsom Wetlands (Melway Ref: 92 G2 – H1)|
|Meeting place||Car Park next to the J Grut Reserve (Mel ref 92 H1)|
For further information, please contact Namal, Tyrone or any OBA committee members
Dec 13: Blood Donation
We are embarking on our 2nd blood donor drive for the year. As you may know currently only 1 in 30 people donate blood, but 1 in 3 people will need blood sometime during their lifetime.
Modern processing techniques ensures that a single blood donation, when separated into its components, can help at least 3 different patients and contribute to making up to 22 different products (including potentially life-saving immunisations for chicken pox, hepatitis B and tetanus). The majority of donated blood goes to people with cancer, as well as people who have suffered traumatic accidents, burns or those undergoing surgery.
|Date:||Sunday, 13th December 2020|
|Time:||Time slot run in 15 minute intervals, starting from 9:45 am to 11:30 pm|
Mt. Waverley Donor Centre
New donors must be enrolled prior to a team booking and can do this online at www.donateblood.com.au (click Log In then Register Account) or by completing and submitting a copy of the attached New Donor Enrolment Form.
Please ensure the appointment table and any enrolment forms are submitted to us no later than Friday 27 November.

Oct 25:Founders Day Alms Giving
A warm welcome to all of you for our next OAAV event. Each year we undertake the dana to give thanks to the founders of our alma mater, thanking them for their foresight and fortitude. Given the current Covid-19 restrictions, this year’s alms giving will take place under very different circumstances. Since we are unable to attend in person, we have organised for the dana to be prepared and delivered to the following temples in Berwick, Keysborough, Dandenong(Cranbourne), & Rockbank.
|Date:||25th October - Temples - Berwick, Keysborough, Dandenong (Cranbourne)
27th October - Temple - Rockbank
There will be a total of 15 priest receiving dana in these four temples. We look forward to your kindness and generosity in donations for the Pirikara ($50). Further, you can also contribute to the operational expenses of the temple itself. Below are the OAAV bank details. Please make your donations to this account, and notify the following members via email and specify your preference (Pirikara Or Temple Expenses)
Whilst the process of undertaking and delivering this dana under current conditions may be somewhat alien to us, the merit and blessings would in no way be diminished. We thank you for your kindness and donations in this meritorious act.
You can also join the OAAV YouTube Channel to watch a special sermon from Ven. Yassassi Thero on Sunday at 7:30pm, by clicking on the YouTube icon in the emailed PDF or following this link https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzfCnFOmr2DcXokc57JeQIw
